The Mold Challenge: How a Crisis on the Iporanga Coast Forged Our Shielding Protocol for Aggressive Environments
The story of how the execution of one of our most complex ceilings turned into a race against time to solve an unforeseen problem, resulting in one of the most important innovations of the BOV Method.

~250m² of artisanal ceiling panel in a diagonal weave ("fish scale") for a residence with a multi-hip roof.
The Core Challenge
How to ensure the aesthetic integrity of a 100% artisanal cladding, made with young, starch-rich bamboo, in Brazil's most humid and fungus-prone environment (coast + Atlantic Forest)?

The Project Journey
The Impossible Geometry and Nature's Revenge
The Casa Iporanga project brought together two extreme challenges. The first, geometric: a roof with up to four hips meeting at a single point, radial beams, and acute angles. Implementing a handcrafted woven cladding there seemed like an impossible three-dimensional puzzle. The second challenge was biological. To achieve the flexibility required for the weave, we needed to use young bamboo, harvested before its peak lignification. This meant a material with a very high sugar content, installed 50 meters from the sea, in the humid heart of the Atlantic Forest. It was the perfect invitation for the most feared enemy in coastal projects: mold.

The Triad of Engineering, Resolution, and Aesthetics
To overcome the geometry and biology, our approach needed to be twofold. We applied process engineering to resolve the complexity of the installation and, when the crisis arose, we delved into R&D to definitively solve the problem, ensuring an impeccable final aesthetic.
Solução 1
Mold Engineering — The On-Site X-Ray System
To overcome the geometry, we developed the On-Site X-Ray System with Physical Molds. Instead of attempting cuts on-site, our team created cardboard molds for each roof section. We took these molds to the factory and used them to cut the large woven panels with surgical precision. The result was a fast installation with a perfect fit.
Solução 2
Crisis Resolution — The Anti-Mold Protocol
Months after installation, the nightmare became real: the cladding was molding. Our first attempt at a solution, using traditional methods, failed. The mold returned. It was a defining crisis for us. We delved into research and, after 20 days of testing, developed a new chemical formulation. We returned to the site, removed every trace of the problem, and applied our new solution. The mold never returned.

Field Intelligence
What We Learned
Iporanga taught us invaluable lessons, forged in crisis, which are now pillars of our method:
A Partner's Value is Measured in Crisis, Not in Calm: Anyone can deliver a project when everything goes right. This case proved that our real value lies in our ability to solve unforeseen problems. The mold crisis was not a failure; it was a demonstration of our commitment to finding a solution, transforming a setback into a new quality standard.
The Age of the Bamboo Dictates the Treatment Protocol: We learned through practice that choosing a material (young bamboo) for its mechanical property (flexibility) requires a chemical counterpart (extra protection against fungi). This solidified our rule that the treatment protocol is not generic; it must be customized for the age and species of the bamboo in relation to the installation environment.
For Impossible Geometries, the Physical Mold is the Definitive Template: This project gave rise to our X-Ray System with Physical Molds, proving that, for organic and complex designs, the best technology is sometimes the simplest. Creating a physical template on-site to guide industrial production in the factory is the most effective way to ensure precision.
